This is a fully functional, full size, Hylian shield from Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I made it for my girlfriend's Halloween costume. (Guess who she was!) It has a proper hand grasp and shoulder harness as well.

I could not have done this without some graciously donated materials from my employer, and my dad providing me with the right tools, and some pro problem solving.

The shield is hand cut, and formed alupanel, with a vinyl wrapped face, and hand cut spiffy chrome alupanel trim. All the vinyl layers are hand cut as well. No machine helped me make this.

See the shield in context. [link]

This shield is absolutely beautiful. Any chance of a tutorial on how to achieve such awesomeness?

Thank you so much! I suppose I could make a tutorial, but the materials are not readily available. The only special thing about this project is the use of a sign substrate known as alupanel (it has other names depending on the manufacturer) and it's ability to be deformed by repeated blows. Now, you could form aluminum in the same way, but it would be heavier, and it wouldn't be as easy to cut by hand. If someone wanted to go out and make this, without already having scrap material and the necessary tools, they would be spending about 300$.

But, if someone wanted to go through all the trouble to get the right stuff, I would be happy to walk them through the process!

Well, that would certainly be appreciated, but isn't necessary if you think it'd be too much of a hassle.

Yeah, probably not right now though, since I'm busy with schoolwork.
